THYROID

(See Also: Hyperthyroid (Graves Disease), Hypothyroid)

How to Measure Thyroid Function

Located at the base of the neck just below the Adam´s apple, the thyroid is
the energy gland of the human body.  It produces T3 and T4 thyroid hormones that control the body´s metabolism. The thyroid also controls other vital functions such as digestion, circulation, immune function, hormone balance and emotions.

The thyroid gland is actually controlled by the pituitary gland which
signals the thyroid when to produce thyroid hormone. The pituitary gland, in turn,
is directed by chemical signals sent by the hypothalamus gland which monitors
hormone levels in the blood stream.

A lack of thyroid hormone does not necessarily mean that the thyroid is not
functioning properly (although in many cases, this may be the case).  In some
instances, the pituitary may be malfunctioning because of its failure to
release sufficient TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) to spur the thyroid to make
thyroid hormone.

Other cases of thyroid hormone deficiency may be due to the hypothalamus
failing to release sufficient TRH (thyrotropin releasing hormone).

In cases where thyroid hormone deficiency is caused by a malfunctioning
pituitary or hypothalamus, better results may be achieved by using supplements or
essential oils that stimulate the pituitary or hypothalamus, such as Ultra
Young or Cedarwood.

Thyroid Function, How to Measure

To check your thyroid function, use the Barnes Basal Temperature Test:

o Shake a thermometer and leave on the bedside table just prior to going to
sleep.

o Immediately upon awakening in the morning, insert the thermometer snugly
in the armpit and lie quietly for ten minutes.

o Repeat test for two consecutive days and once more after a week.

o The temperature should range between 97.8º to 98.2° F (36.5 to 36.7° C).
Temperatures below 97.8º indicate hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) and
temperatures above 98.2 indicate hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid function)
which is far rarer.

NOTE: Women will obtain the most accurate readings when not menstruating or
on the second and third day of menstruation.

People with type A blood have more of a tendency to have weak thyroid
function.

Watch Out for Chlorine

Since chlorine shuts down thyroid function by preventing absorption of
iodine and the amino acid tyrosine, drink chlorine-free water. To remove chlorine
from water, it should either be distilled or passed through activated carbon
filters. As an alternative, you can let tap water stand unsealed and add a
drop of

lemon, peppermint, or spearmint.

Thyroid Imbalance

HYPOTHYROID

(See Also: Hypoglycemia).

Those who do not produce enough thyroid hormone have a condition known as
hypo-thyroidism. Approximately 40 percent of the U.S. population suffers from
this disorder, and these people tend to also suffer hypoglycemia (low blood
sugar).

The following symptoms occur:

o Fatigue
o Yeast infections (Candida)
o Lack of energy
o Reduced immune function
o Poor resistance to disease
o Recurring infections

Single Oils:

Lemongrass with myrtle, peppermint, spearmint, myrrh, or clove.

o Lemongrass with EndoFlex.

Place 1 drop of EndoFlex on back (top) of large toes.
Supplements: Thyromin and MultiGreen.

How to Use Thyromin

Thyromin is a supplement designed to feed and help rebuild the thyroid.
Thyromin is best taken at bedtime. Start with 1 capsule immediately before
going to sleep. Check your temperature in the morning. If the Basal
Temperature indicates no improvement, add 1 capsule in the morning.
If still no significant change, go to 2 capsules at night and 1 in the
morning. Use this stepped approach until temperature is in correct range.
VitaGreen enhances the effect of the Thyromin and may be helpful to take along with it.

NOTE: Take half of the total amount of Thyromin at night and half in the
morning.

Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia may also be caused by low thyroid function (See Thyroid).
Excessive consumption of sugar or honey will also cause reactive
hypoglycemia, in which a rapid rise in blood sugar is followed by abnormally low levels.
In some cases, hypoglycemia may be a precursor to candida, allergies,
chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, and chemical sensitivities.
Signs of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) include:

o Fatigue, drowsiness, and sleepiness after meals.
o Headache or dizziness if periods between meals are too long.
o Craving for sweets.
o Allergic reaction to foods.
o Palpitations, tremors, sweats, rapid heart beat.

o Inattentiveness, mood swings, irritability, anxiety, nervousness,
inability to cope with stress, and feelings of emotional depression,

o Lack of motivation, discipline, and creativity.

o Hunger that cannot be satisfied.

Often people with some of these symptoms are misdiagnosed as suffering
either chronic fatigue or neurosis. Instead, they may be hypoglycemic. To treat
chronic hypoglycemia, it may be necessary to first treat the underlying
candida or yeast over growth
(See Fungus Infection).

ENDOFLEX

This blend may help overall vitality. It contains oils associated with
hormonal balance, improving and balancing metabolism, and weight control.

Contains:

Spearmint (Mentha spicata) helps support the respiratory and nervous
systems. With its hormone-like activity, it may help open and release emotional
blocks and bring about a feeling of balance. This oil may aid the respiratory,
nervous, and glandular systems. Spearmint is antispasmodic, anti-infectious,
antiparasitic, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory. It has also been used to
increase metabolism to burn fat.

Myrtle (Myrtus communis) may help normalize hormonal imbalances of the
thyroid and ovaries. It may help the respiratory system with chronic coughs and
tuberculosis. Myrtle is suitable to use for coughs and chest complaints with
children, and may support immune function infighting cold, flu, and infectious
disease.
Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) helps support the adrenal glands for increased
energy. It may help with difficulties related to circulation, and aches and
pains in muscles and joints related to stress, arthritis, and gout. Nutmeg may
also help with digestive problems such as flatulence, indigestion, and
nausea.  It is antiseptic, antiparasitic, and a neurotonic.

antispasmodic, relaxant, anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious, antibacterial,
antifungal, and stimulates the liver and pancreas.

Sage (Salvia officinalis) has been used in Europe for skin conditions such
as eczema, acne, dandruff, and hair loss. It has been recognized for its
ability to strengthen the vital centers. It may help in relieving depression and
